A Nature-Based Theme: The World of Tejaswi

Known for his profound connection with the Western Ghats and his deep curiosity about the natural world, Poornachandra Tejaswi’s legacy will be made real through millions of blooms. Inside the historic Glass House, the focal point will be a spectacular re-creation of the hilly areas of Biligirirangana Betta (BR Hills), with artificial streams, lush vegetation, and models of diverse wildlife. Some of the major highlights of the theme are:

  • Literary Landmarks: Floral replicas of Tejaswi and his wife Rajeshwari, alongside a conceptual landscape inspired by his famous novel Karvalo.
  • Cultural Tapestry: A display of the village charm of the hills; folk arts like Dollu Kunitha; and a miniature representation of Nandi Hills.
Botanical Wonders: A rare exhibit of "Naru-Beru" (fibers and roots) that Tejaswi frequently documented in writings.

Millions of Blooms from Across India

The 219th edition is massive in scale. The decorations feature over 3.2 million (32 lakh) flowers, Horticulture Department Principal Secretary R. Girish confirmed.

  • Local Bounty: A record 2.7 million flowers have been grown in Lalbagh specifically for this show for the first time.
  • National Exotic Imports: To add variety, rare floral species are being transported from Darjeeling, Wayanad (Kerala), Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
  • Security guard on CCTV and police patrolling will be put into place throughout the event.

Role and Revenue

The Lalbagh flower show has a rich past, with the first show dating back to 1912. This has since turned into one of the most anticipated events on India’s horticultural calendar. Economically, the department has spent ₹3.02 crore on this year's arrangements. For reference, the previous show brought in ₹3.05 crore in revenue, and officials say they believe attendance at the “Tejaswi Theme” will attract even bigger crowds and surpass previous results.
