"Let the Truth Come Out": CJ Roy’s Brother Blames I-T Raids for Confident Group Chief's Death

Following the shocking death of Dr. CJ Roy, founder and chairman of the Confident Group, his brother, CJ Babu, has broken his silence, alleging intense pressure and "unbearable" harassment by the Income Tax (I-T) Department. Speaking to reporters today, Babu demanded a thorough investigation, stating that his brother had "no issues other than the income tax matter."

"Zero Debt, No Business Stress"

Dismissing rumors of financial instability or personal threats, CJ Babu insisted that Dr. Roy’s business was quite healthy. "He has zero debt. There were no business stresses, no outstanding loans, and no mental health issues," Babu said to the media. Just recently, the family said that Roy had been in very good spirits and had been on the phone with family to schedule a meeting for the next evening.

Allegations of I-T Pressure

The family's chief complaint is the I-T team from Kerala that had searched the Confident Group's Bengaluru premises for three consecutive days.

  • Timeline: Babu told of a first visit the I-T officials made in December 2025 and the return visit on January 28, 2026, after he called Roy back from a trip to Dubai.
  • The “Unbearable” Trouble: “He repeatedly told me that the I-T trouble was unbearable. My brother cooperated fully and submitted all documents, yet the officials kept coming back,” Babu said.
  • Direct Accusations: The family has targeted a senior official from Thiruvananthapuram, saying the repeated questioning had pushed the tycoon to the edge.

"Let the truth come out. Except the Income Tax question, he had no other concerns. That I am very sure of. They have to explain what went on in the room that made him take that step,” CJ Babu said.

Government Response: High-Level Probe Ordered

Due to the family allegations and gravity of the incident, a high-level investigation has been ordered by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

“They were asking him many questions, and he reportedly asked for five minutes, went inside, and did this. Such harassment is not right,” Shivakumar said, detailing that the state government will file an in-depth report to the Center about how the central agency carried out the raid.

Family Arrives in Bengaluru

Dr. Roy’s wife, Lina Roy, and son, Rohith Roy, arrived from Dubai on Saturday morning and visited the mortuary at Bowring Hospital. The family is expected to lodge a formal police complaint against the I-T officials after the final post-mortem procedure.
