LPG Delivery Authentication Code 2026: New Advisory for Indane, Bharat Gas, HP Gas – Never Share OTP

In an effort to increase transparency and curb cyber fraud, oil marketing companies including Indane (Indian Oil), Bharat Gas (BPCL), and HP Gas (HPCL) have issued a fresh advisory for domestic LPG consumers about the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system.

The DAC, a security code sent to a customer’s registered mobile number upon booking, has been made mandatory for all LPG deliveries since May 1, 2026. This system ensures cylinders reach the rightful consumer and prevents black marketing, hoarding, and illegal diversion of subsidised gas.

How the DAC System Works?

When you book an LPG cylinder refill, a unique OTP or DAC is sent to your registered mobile number. The delivery personnel will only hand over the cylinder after you share this code with them at your doorstep. Without this authentication, the delivery will not be completed. Fraud Alert: Never Share DAC Over Phone

After a surge in digital delivery scams, the three companies have warned users against sharing their DAC over phone calls, WhatsApp, or any third-party links. Fraudsters are sending fake SMS and WhatsApp messages mimicking official delivery alerts, then calling customers to claim that delivery will be cancelled unless the OTP is shared for "verification".

If fraudsters get the code from the victim, then they can gain access to the victim’s consumer profile or linked financial apps.

What are some safety protocols to follow?

Share Only at Doorstep: The 4-digit (HP Gas/Bharat Gas) or 6-digit (Indane) DAC must only be shared with the delivery person when they are physically present with the cylinder. Verify Sender IDs: Official communication is only from verified IDs such as "VM-HPGASc-S" (HP Gas), "VK-INDANE" or "VM-INDANE" (Indane), and "AD-BPCL" (Bharat Gas). Messages from personal mobile numbers are fraudulent.

No Employee Will Ask: Gas companies have made clear that no employee is authorised to collect DAC via phone call, WhatsApp, or any link. If anyone asks, it is a scam. Keep Mobile Number Updated: Ensure your registered mobile number is updated with your gas agency; otherwise, you will not receive the DAC and delivery will be delayed.

Other Recent Changes

The minimum gap between LPG bookings has been extended from 21 to 25 days in urban areas and up to 45 days in rural areas. Moreover, Aadhaar-based e-KYC has been made compulsory for PMUY beneficiaries to continue receiving subsidies. If you receive any suspicious message, immediately contact your gas agency or the company's official helpline. Stay vigilant, stay safe.
