The district administration has formed a three-member committee to investigate complaints related to the collection and management of devotees' offerings. A report is to be given within seven days.

Complaints Trigger Administrative Action

According to Agar Malwa Collector Preeti Yadav, the administration received complaints that a non-governmental committee residing within the temple premises was collecting cash donations as well as gold and silver offerings, apart from the government-authorised temple management committee.

The complaints also claimed that private bank accounts were being used to carry out donations made by devotees and could be the cause of financial fraud or lack of transparency in the management of temple funds.

As such, the Collector ordered a separate inquiry to verify the claims and determine whether or not procedures were violated.

Three-Member Committee to Conduct Inquiry

The investigation will be led by District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer B.S. Solanki.

District Treasury Officer Manish Solanki and Nalkheda Municipal Council Chief Municipal Officer Minni Agrawal have been appointed as members of the inquiry panel.

The committee is to review and report in a week.

What the Investigation Will Examine

In this regard, officials will examine the temple premises and review the whole system through which donations and offerings are collected and managed.

The committee will look at receipt books, bank accounts, accounting records, and other financial documents to see if donations were made according to prescribed rules and procedures.

Investigators will also examine whether any government officer, temple employee, management representative or any other person played a role in the alleged irregularities.

The Collector’s order is that the panel must be able to collect documentary evidence, verify financial transactions, and report detailed observations and recommendations for further action.

One of India's Most Revered Shakti Peeths

The Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda is one of the country's most famous shrines dedicated to Goddess Baglamukhi, one of the ten Mahavidyas in Hindu tradition.

The temple draws thousands of devotees from all over India during the year and especially on Navratri and other festivals. Given the high cash donations and valuable offerings from the shrine, allegations of financial affairs have attracted the public’s attention.

The result of that investigation will determine if the allegations are true or not and what kind of administrative, disciplinary or legal action is needed.

The probe comes at a time when transparency in temple donation management is also at the forefront of national debate following recent incidents in other major religious institutions. The seven-day inquiry could shed light on the functioning of the donation system at one of Madhya Pradesh’s main pilgrimage centres.
