The accident happened around the IT Park area, police said. The Fortuner was driving at high speed when it collided with the motorcycle carrying the two brothers, investigators said. The collision caused extensive damage to the two vehicles. The motorcycle was very mangled in the accident and the SUV also was heavily damaged.

Nikhil Ankush Arke and Kapil Ankush Arke, the two brothers of Banjara Colony in Sillod taluka, were among the deceased. The brothers worked at a hotel situated in the Prozone Mall in CIDCO area.

Police said the sequence of events started after Kapil finished his work shift on Wednesday night. At 12.15 am he left home on a motorcycle to pick up his elder brother Nikhil from work. After meeting his brother, the two started their journey back home on the same motorcycle.

But their journey was cut short when the speeding Fortuner allegedly came from the wrong side of the road near the IT Park. The SUV collided head-on with the motorcycle, leaving the brothers with fatal injuries. The force of the crash was so strong that both brothers died at the scene, police said.

The incident has once again raised the risk of speeding and wrong-side driving, particularly at night, where vehicles move at night. Driving against the designated direction of traffic significantly increases the risk of head-on collisions and drivers have little time to react or avoid an approaching car.

The Fortuner driver fled the scene, adding a new dimension to the incident. Police are trying to find and trace the driver. The accident site, damaged vehicles and any witnesses or surveillance footage of the area will be investigated, said investigators.

The authorities are also investigating whether excessive speed, wrong-side driving or other factors contributed to the crash. The exact circumstances leading up to the collision will become clearer as the investigation progresses.

The families of Nikhil and Kapil have lost so much on a typical Wednesday night that it is devastating. The brothers were returning home after work when the incident occurred, they said. Their deaths also serve to remind us that road violations can have far-reaching effects on innocent people who are on the road.

Road safety experts have stressed that lane discipline, speed limits, and staying alert, especially at night, are critical for traveling safely. Wrong-side driving is especially dangerous because vehicles coming from the opposite direction may not have enough time to respond to an unexpected vehicle that enters their path.

Police are still searching for the Fortuner driver and are continuing to investigate the accident. The investigation will only progress once the driver is found and the circumstances surrounding the wrong-side driving and fatal collision are established.
