The holy city of Mantralayam has been beautifully decorated and transformed into a spiritual centre as preparations are complete for the 355th Aradhana Mahotsavam of Sri Raghavendra Swamy and the grand Sapta Rathrotsavam. The week-long religious celebration is to take place from August 27 to September 2, and thousands of devotees will come from all over India and abroad to the revered Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt.
The mutt management has set up elaborate arrangements for the smooth performance of the festival, one of the most important annual events for followers of Sri Raghavendra Swamy. The whole temple town has been decorated with decorations, lights and floral arrangements ahead of the celebrations.
Dhwajarohana to Mark the Beginning
The Aradhana Mahotsavam and Sapta Rathrotsavam will formally begin on August 27 with the traditional Dhwajarohana (flag-hoisting ceremony). The pontiff of the mutt will perform the flag-hoisting ceremony to launch the seven-day spiritual festivity.
After Dhwajarohana, Go Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Dhanya Puja and Ashwa Puja are the most important rituals to be conducted. These ceremonies are very important, and the number of devotees will be very high as they have great religious significance.
Key Aradhana Dates
The celebrations will reach their spiritual peak during the three main Aradhana days dedicated to Sri Raghavendra Swamy.
- August 29 – Poorvaradhana
- August 30 – Madhyaradhana
- August 31 – Uttararadhana
Among all those, Madhyaradhana is the most celebrated day and it is the most important day to remember the sacred day when Sri Raghavendra Swamy entered Brindavana. Thousands of devotees are expected to gather at the mutt on this day to perform special prayers and rituals.
Panchamrita Abhisheka and Suvarna Rathotsava
As part of Madhyaradhana celebrations, the mutt will organise a grand Panchamrita Abhisheka, where the deity and sacred symbols will be ceremonially bathed with milk, curd, honey, ghee, and other holy offerings.
A major highlight of the day will be the Suvarna Rathotsava (Golden Chariot Festival). The beautifully decorated golden chariot carrying the deity will be taken in a grand procession with Vedic chanting, devotional songs and thousands of devotees.
Grand Maharathotsava on Uttararadhana
The Uttararadhana festivities on August 31 will be witness to the much anticipated Maharathotsava, one of the most spectacular events of the festival.
To add to the grandeur of the ceremony, the pontiff of the mutt will perform a special Pushparchane (flower offering) from a helicopter. The unique floral tribute is expected to be one of the major attractions of this year's celebrations.
The day will also see the traditional Vasanthotsava and spiritual talks and blessings from the seer that will provide the devotees with guidance and divine grace.
Cultural Programs and Devotional Activities
The mutt has planned a variety of cultural and devotional programs throughout the week apart from the religious ceremonies. Classical music concerts, devotional singing, spiritual discourses and cultural performances will be organised every evening to enrich the spiritual experience of devotees.
These programs are intended to spread the teachings of Sri Raghavendra Swamy and the mutt’s cultural and religious heritage.
Thousands of Devotees Expected
There are huge numbers of pilgrims coming from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and other parts of India to attend the festival. All facilities for accommodation, food, crowd management, transportation and security are in place for devotees.
The 355th Aradhana Mahotsavam, with its spirituality, tradition and cultural grandeur, will surely be a memorable festival in honour of Sri Raghavendra Swamy. It will end on September 2 as it is the last of the seven-day Sapta Rathrotsavam.
