Eggs were thrown at the procession and slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” were heard as people from both sides got into a heated fight.
Ganpati processions are an important part of Mumbai’s public religious and cultural life and huge crowds gather along procession routes, from devotees to organizers, police personnel and local residents.
Any dispute in such events could quickly become a mess - especially when there are so many people around.
There are videos and posts about the Mazgaon incident on social media showing crowds gathered around the scene in a frenzy and emotions.
Eggs thrown at the procession have been one of the major topics of debate but the exact sequence of events and circumstances of the alleged event are not yet known and officials are not clear about what happened.
