The fire spread from a moving vehicle, and thick black smoke snaked out of a part of the busy road blowing in as it blocked traffic and caused chaos, witnesses said.

So this time the fire happened in peak traffic hours and people running away from the place of the accident stopped to escape the smoke.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade responded quickly to the distress call. Firefighters rushed to the scene, and began to extinguish the flames before they got into other vehicles. Police were also on site to control traffic and divert vehicles away from that road.

But videos circulated on social media showed thick black smoke rising above the Coastal Road and drivers leaving their cars behind and fleeing to safer places. The images quickly piqued attention online, with commuters taking off in the direction of safer vehicles on one of Mumbai’s main transport arteries.

Fortunately, there were no major injuries or casualties. Motorists were evacuated and emergency response was quick, the officials said in an interview. But the fire caused traffic to start to choke up as authorities closed off parts of the road to keep firefighting going safely.

The exact cause of the fire is still not official. Initial investigations show that it could have been due to a vehicle mechanical problem and engine problems - something as mechanical as a fault in the engine but the investigators are investigating all possibilities. The damaged vehicle will be thoroughly examined by experts to determine the real cause for the fire.

Mumbai Coastal Road is one of the city’s most significant infrastructure projects to reduce travel times and alleviate congestion on the western coastline. Any kind of disruption on this route will have a major impact on everyday commuters, especially at rush hours.

Police said drivers should remain calm in the event of emergencies and follow the orders of officials in police and rescue services and act in accordance with instructions given by them. Vehicles were advised to be prepared to keep their vehicles on routine maintenance, check for fuel leaks, overheating and electrical trouble, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.

After firefighters extinguished the fire and cleared the damaged vehicle from the road, traffic slowly resumed moving again as firefighters worked to control the fire and got the vehicle out of the road. Officials will provide a detailed report after their investigation.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and emergency preparedness. Although modern roads are better and make travel more efficient, unexpected incidents like vehicle fires highlight the urgent need for emergency response systems and public awareness.

Mumbai’s emergency services once again showed that they were prepared to respond to the situation quickly and safely, providing commuters with shelter.
