Mumbai High-Rise Fire: Level-1 Blaze Erupts in 45-Storey Goregaon Tower; Residents Evacuated

Scary but not shocking, panic seized the Gokhuldham area in Goregaon East on Friday morning, February 13, 2026, when a fire broke out at the upper floors of an upscale high-rise housing compound. It started on the 9th floor of the DB Wood Building, a 45-storey high-rise on Krishna Vatika Road and which was home to the construction of many such projects in the past. The MFB got a call regarding its use at about 9:11 a.m. Within minutes, firefighters ran toward the scene, working to contain the flames and stop their progression through internal shafts in the building.

Details of the Incident: Bedroom Fire Initiates Evacuation

A report from Mumbai Fire Brigade said in its press release that the fire in question was Level-1 (limited seriousness) but was dangerous, was on account of the tall tower and contained in the house flammable substances.

  • Origin: The fire was reported to have been ignited in an occupied bedroom of a flat on the 9th floor.
  • Fuel for Fire: The fire was limited to wires, the kitchen appliances and other objects.
  • Rescue operations: The internal security and MFB carried out a quick evacuation operation as a precaution. Those who lived on these and other floors affected were moved to the refuge area of the building and to the terrace to avoid inhaling smoke.

Current Status and Safety

By 10:30 AM, firefighting companies and hose lines on the inside fixed firefighting system were able to put out fire.

  • Casualties: Officials have said that no injuries or fatalities have been reported in the incident.
  • Damage: While there has been significant internal damage to the flat on the 9th floor, the whole high-rise remains intact.
  • Cause: A preliminary investigation is ongoing, and it is suspected that a short circuit in the electrical installation in the bedroom is behind the problem.

Visuals Go Viral

Those videos hit social media quickly, revealing thick black smoke billowing from the windows of the 45-storey tower when the fire broke out in flames. Footage viewed the rapid response of the fire tenders as they rolled across the narrow roads of Gokhuldham to the site.

As of the date in question, the incident occurs after a fire at the Naval Dockyard in South Mumbai—a blaze which had been reported only the night before puts the city’s emergency service on "high alert".
