Namma Metro Yellow Line Update: 6th Train Inducted to Reduce Waiting Time

In a major relief for commuters traveling to the city's tech and industrial hubs, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced the induction of the sixth trainset on the Yellow Line (RV Road – Bommasandra). Starting December 23, 2025, the additional train will officially enter passenger service, significantly reducing wait times during the busiest hours of the day.

Peak-Hour Frequency Improved

The primary goal of this induction is to address the growing passenger demand on the 19.15-km elevated corridor that connects South Bengaluru to Electronics City.

With the deployment of the sixth train, the peak-hour headway (time interval between trains) will be cut down as follows:

  • Monday to Saturday: Frequency improved from 15 minutes to 13 minutes during peak hours.
  • Sundays: Peak-hour frequency will remain at 15 minutes.

Impact on Commuters

Since its inauguration in August 2025, the Yellow Line has become a lifeline for IT professionals and industrial workers. However, the initial low frequency of trains led to significant crowding at major stations like RV Road, Silk Board, and Electronic City.

The BMRCL expects the 13-minute interval to:

  1. Reduce Platform Crowding: Faster turnaround times will prevent large build-ups of passengers at interchange stations.
  2. Ease Onboard Congestion: More frequent trips mean fewer passengers per coach during rush hour.
  3. Encourage Public Transport: Shorter wait times make the metro a more viable alternative to the heavily congested Hosur Road.

Technical Details and Future Plans

The new six-coach trainset was manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) in West Bengal, under a contract with China’s CRRC. This "driverless-ready" train underwent rigorous static and dynamic testing at the Hebbagodi depot throughout December before receiving the final green light for commercial operations.

Note: There are no changes to the first and last train timings. Services will continue to commence at 6:00 AM from both terminal stations (RV Road and Bommasandra) on weekdays.

BMRCL aims to eventually reach a frequency of 5–8 minutes on this line as more trainsets are delivered and inducted through the first half of 2026.
