An uncharacteristically shocking road-rage incident in Taloja near Hotel Highway Break in Navi Mumbai has been highlighted by a road-rage incident in which an auto-rickshaw allegedly chased a car after a brief clash on the highway. What began as a normal traffic accident was seemingly a bit of a car chase between two men who got out of the auto and attacked the car and broke its windscreen, a police spokesperson said.
According to information available about the incident, the auto-rickshaw joined the highway in a dangerous manner near Hotel Highway Break, Taloja. The car driver who was driving on the highway honked once after it entered the road. The driver overtook the auto and continued ahead. The auto followed the car but the occupants of the auto did not leave. The pursuit continued until the auto came to meet the vehicle.
The situation then became violent. Two men allegedly got down from the auto and confronted the car. Then they attacked the car and smashed its windscreen. It appears that the incident was triggered by the earlier traffic encounter, but the exact sequence of events and circumstances of the encounter would need to be established through an official investigation. Such incidents can be highly dangerous for the people involved and for other drivers travelling on the highway.
Road-rage incidents are particularly dangerous when driving on highways because they can be dangerous when cars are going fast at high speed and even a brief fight can easily result in a head-on collision. Sudden braking, aggressive overtaking, blocking another car or chasing a car can cause the collision to be a direct result of multiple road users being jeopardised. In this instance, the chase after the overtaking incident escalated the situation instead of allowing the traffic fight to end.

The smashing of a vehicle's windscreen is also a serious safety risk. The windscreen is one of the most important structural and protective components of a car; it can potentially injure those in it. A collision with several people around a moving or stopped vehicle can increase the risk of injury. So the incident is a further reminder that road disputes should not be allowed to turn into physical confrontations.
