Northeast Girls Targeted With Racist Abuse At Patna Railway Station, Public Anger Grows

A disturbing incident at Patna Railway Station in Bihar has once again shown the racism faced by people from Northeast India. On 3 April 2026, a woman was caught on video verbally abusing a group of Northeast girls. She said derogatory slurs such as “chinki” and “momo” and targeted their appearance and identity. The video quickly went viral, causing anger and calls for immediate action against the offender.

The abuse was not only insulting but also deeply hurtful and reinforced stereotypes and prejudices that Northeast Indians have long faced. For years, people from the region have been mocked for their looks, food habits and culture. Such incidents reveal how discrimination persists in public spaces even as we call for sensitivity and respect.

Witnesses at the train station filmed the incident and the footage spread quickly on social media. Most people were horrified by the woman’s behavior, calling for the Railway Administration and local authorities to get her to arrest her now. Hate speech should not be tolerated and must be punished under the law, advocacy groups and citizens told us, as well as citizens of the country.

This episode has reignited the conversation about racism in India. While the country is multicultural, Northeast Indians often feel excluded and targeted. “Chinki” and “momo” are not just words to joke about but racist insults as well that can hurt a whole society. Hate speech should be stopped and enforcement of hate speech laws should be strengthened as a matter of policy to safeguard vulnerable people and equality, they say.

Public reaction has been quick and divided. Most condemned the woman’s actions but some say awareness campaigns are equally important to change mindsets. It’s all about accountability and how the Railway Police should act.

Such incidents are common in India; discrimination is something that should be addressed. The Patna Railway Station episode is a reminder that racism is not just a Western problem, but a problem here too and must be confronted.

But the law enforcement will carry out a thorough investigation, as we say, and the offender will pay. And above all, we need to understand that unity is in respect of differences. The Northeast is a part of India and its people deserve dignity, safety and acceptance everywhere.
