Northern Railway said on Thursday they would help stranded passengers reach their destinations by providing a special train service to relieve the heavy traffic due to road closure that has stranded thousands of people at any point on the road.
As railway officials said, the special train was put in emergency mode in order to deal with the sudden surge in passenger demand due to the highway shutdown in a sudden manner.
Local administration and disaster management teams worked closely with stranded passengers to evacuate them without further delay.
The highway was closed due to adverse weather and safety fears, and road traffic is to be shut down until further notice; the highway closure was said to be due to safety reasons.
Hundreds of vehicles, including buses, private cars, and commercial transport, were affected, and travelers had to wait for alternate routes.
Northern Railway mobilized more coaches and operational personnel to run the special service quickly, and it also mentioned how quickly the situation was addressed. The safety of passengers is the top priority of the railway, and we are doing everything we can to make sure that passengers can come to the train and travel safely, railway officials said.
At railway stations, officials brought extra workers to help passengers with ticketing, boarding, and information services. Public announcements and help desks were also set up so that travelers would be guided through the emergency operation.
Passengers welcomed the initiative and said the special train was a timely intervention that helped them with their travel. The railway was quick to act, they said, as road transport options were shut down or delayed due to the highway closures.
Northern Railway has advised passengers to keep track of their trains and train information at station counters and on the internet while traveling on their train. Travelers also have to be aware of weather alerts and road safety warnings issued by local authorities when it is raining or there is a landslide hazard.

The railway officials say additional services could be implemented if passenger demand remains high and if road transport infrastructure is disrupted for longer periods of time.
The rail network often serves as a lifeline in natural disasters and transport crises to pull people when road infrastructure is temporarily unavailable.
Emergency transport arrangements such as these demonstrate the importance of coordination on the part of railway authorities, district administration, and disaster response agencies. Special train services are quickly used to reduce passenger inconvenience and to alleviate crowding at bus terminals and roadside waiting areas.
The highway is still closed, and we are advising the public not to travel to the affected areas until road conditions get better.
Northern Railway, however, will help when needed on the road and is one of India’s best-managed transportation systems when it comes to emergencies.
The successful operation of the special train demonstrates how timely planning, effective coordination, and public service can greatly reduce the impacts of unexpected travel disruptions and ensure stranded passengers reach their destinations safely.
