PrajaSeve Department to Be Inaugurated in Kudligi: Karnataka Government Takes People-Centric Governance to Citizens’ Doorsteps

The Karnataka government will embark on another step to strengthen people-centric governance in the form of the new "PrajaSeve" department at Kudligi in Vijayanagara district in the next few days. The project is to bridge the chasm between government and citizens in order to serve and address their problems more directly.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will inaugurate the PrajaSeve initiative in Kudligi in an important step towards a more accessible and responsive governance system. The project is being advertised with the core message of “Your Problem, Our Solution” which is in line with the government’s stated aim of understanding citizens’ problems and solving them at the earliest possible stage.

The choice of Kudligi has historical and symbolic significance. It is part of Vijayanagara district, which is highly connected to the Vijayanagara Empire and Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya. It is one of the most important periods of South Indian history in terms of its cultural, economic, and administrative accomplishments.

The PrajaSeve initiative is also inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, and the Mahatma Gandhi Chita Bhasma Memorial in the area is a reminder of his service philosophy and his emphasis on reaching the most marginalised sections of society.

The government has claimed that the programme is aimed at making governance accessible to ordinary citizens. Rather than people coming back to government offices repeatedly for help, the initiative aims to bring government representatives and services closer to communities.

A major part of PrajaSeve will be identifying public grievances and providing solutions. The government’s message is to understand people’s needs, listen to their problems and solve the issues directly rather than leave grievances to languish for lengthy periods.

So, the initiative is not only being seen as an administrative programme, but also as a more general approach to governance in which citizens are at the core of decision-making and service delivery.

The slogan “Your Problem, Our Solution” underlines this approach. It is the government’s position that public grievances are an important task of administration and that we should improve communication between citizens and government officials.

The government has also used the message “The government has come to your doorstep” to demonstrate its commitment to bringing public services closer to communities. It may be especially helpful for people who find it difficult to visit district or state-level government offices to address their issues.

The launch in Kudligi will be a platform for the government to showcase that it is in touch with grievance redressal and people-oriented management. There should be collaboration between the government and citizens of the country to guarantee that public services are delivered to the people who need them.

The larger purpose is to create a governance system that is responsive, accessible, and connected to people at the grassroots level. PrajaSeve is about getting government machinery closer to citizens; it is about the administration and the public in a better together.

With the inauguration in Kudligi, the Karnataka government is trying to put some practical shape on its people-centred governance message. The initiative will be evaluated for how it can translate citizens’ complaints into immediate administrative action so that people are heard in more direct terms, and the government can address them.
