Mysuru residents should be prepared for water shortages on a short-term basis due to scheduled maintenance on the electricity network. Authorities advise people to store enough water in advance and to use the available supplies judiciously to avoid disruption during the affected period.
KPTCL is scheduled to perform maintenance work at Devanuru power substation during the second quarter of the year. As part of the maintenance work, electricity supply from Devanuru substation will be suspended from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 6. The power shutdown will have a direct impact on water pumping stations, which are critical for drinking water supply in Mysuru city.
The Melapura and Rammanahalli pumping stations, which are among the major sources pumping water to different parts of the city, will be affected because of the interruption in electricity supply. Because the pumping process relies on uninterrupted power, water distribution in many localities will be disrupted, the officials said. The shutdown will be felt on September 6 and September 7.
There are a lot of wards in Mysuru with lower or delayed water supply. Areas falling under Ward Numbers 9 to 16, 28 to 39, and Wards 52 and 53 will be affected. Residents living in these wards are advised to make all preparations before the scheduled maintenance is carried out.
Some of the most prominent residential areas in Mysuru are likely to face water-related problems. These include Kesare, Rajendranagar, Subhash Nagar, N.R. Mohalla, Gandhinagar, Udayagiri, and Rajiv Nagar Phases 1, 2, and 3. Residents of Shantinagar, Kalyanagiri, areas surrounding Dr Rajkumar Road, Yaraganahalli, Siddartha Layout, Alanahalli, Nandini Layout, and Giridarshini Layout may also face water supply problems.
The effects are not limited to those neighbourhoods alone. Gousianagar, Kyathamaranahalli, and a number of surrounding areas could also be affected by such an interruption in pumping operations, the authorities said. Water storage and distribution systems may not be restored as soon as electricity is restored, and some areas may continue to experience irregular supply.
The Executive Engineer of the Mysuru City Water Supply and Underground Drainage East Division has asked the public to cooperate with the authorities during the maintenance period. They said it's required to ensure the long-term reliability and safety of the power infrastructure serving the city.
Citizens should have the necessary drinking water and water for household purposes. Authorities have also urged residents to avoid wasting water and to use water wisely during the disruption period. Residents of affected areas are advised to plan their water use in advance to avoid inconvenience.
While the disruption may be temporary, officials have assured residents that every effort will be made to restore normal water supply at the earliest once the maintenance work is completed.
