Controversial leader Pramod Muthalik has vehemently criticized Christian-run schools and colleges in Karnataka, alleging attempts to impose Christian religious practices on Hindu students. Muthalik, the chief of the Sri Rama Sena, has announced that the organization is preparing to file a formal complaint with the School Education Department.
Allegations of Flouting Government Holiday Rules
A central point of contention raised by Muthalik is the alleged violation of government holiday mandates. While the government officially declares only one day of holiday for Christmas on December 25, Muthalik claims that several Christian-managed private schools have unilaterally and "unofficially" declared extended holidays stretching up to 10 days. He labeled this practice as completely illegal and a direct contravention of official government orders.
Muthalik drew a stark comparison, pointing out that during the Dasara festival, some of these same private schools allegedly cancelled declared holidays and instead conducted classes and examinations. He questioned the disparity, asking why these Christian-managed institutions are now granting a nearly two-week recess for Christmas when the official allowance is just one day.
Sri Rama Sena’s Demands to the Education Department
The Sri Rama Sena has put forward a series of firm demands to the School Education Department, threatening massive protests if swift action is not taken:
- Immediate Investigation and Action: The department must immediately investigate and take action against all institutions that have violated government holiday regulations.
- Halt Unauthorized Holidays: The practice of declaring unauthorized, long-duration Christmas holidays must be immediately stopped.
- Prohibit Religious Dominance: Stricter prohibitions must be enforced against any activities that impose religious dominance or practices on students, regardless of their faith, in the future.
Muthalik issued a stern warning, stating that if appropriate measures are not taken, the Hindu community, mobilized by the Sri Rama Sena, would organize large-scale protests against Christian-managed schools across the state.
