Congress General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized BJP members in Parliament for giving the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan a hero’s welcome as if he were a superstar, and said it was shameful.
Priyanka Gandhi has raised questions about the BJP’s decision to honour the Union Minister at a time when the Opposition has been raising concerns over the various issues related to the education sector and demanding greater accountability from the government. Parliament should, she said, be focusing on the concerns of students, parents, and citizens instead of celebrating ministers. Ministers of the ruling party dismissed the Opposition’s criticism as politically motivated and said it was not unusual for Parliament to congratulate a colleague for a vital parliamentary intervention. BJP representatives said the support is part of parliamentary tradition and shouldn’t be politicized.
