On April 5, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will host the blockbuster clash of the home team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), against the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK). With a large number of fans expected to attend the stadium, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has been expanding its service.

As IPL matches especially those between RCB and CSK rivals often drag on until late into the night, Namma Metro will extend its services until 2:00 AM in the early hours of Monday. This is to achieve a safe, reliable and traffic-free journey for the fans and avoid the post-match chaos of Bengaluru’s streets.

Extended Metro Time and Schedule

Although the metro closes at 11:00 PM, BMRCL has defined an evening schedule for the match day. The last train departure from various terminal stations will be as follows:

  • R.V. Road: The last train will leave at 2:00 AM.
  • Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic): Trains towards all four directions will leave at 1:30 AM.
  • Challaghatta: Final train at 12:45 AM.
  • Silk Institute & Madavara: Last trains at 12:45 AM.
  • Whitefield (Kadugodi): Last train at 12:30 AM.
  • Bommasandra: Last train at 12:30 AM.

BMRCL has also optimized the frequency of trains immediately following the match to clear the surge of fans leaving from the Cubbon Park and MG Road stations, which are within walking distance of the stadium gates.

Seamless travel with Digital QR tickets

BMRCL has integrated metro travel with the IPL experience. For the April 5 match, digital IPL tickets will have a special Namma Metro QR code for the fans. This code is for two-way travel for the fans to scan their match ticket at the metro gate and enter and exit. It is an innovative technology to encourage public transport and reduce the environmental impact of the event.

Parking and Logistics

For people who want to drive to a nearby train station before getting on, there are additional parking facilities at 44 metro stations across the city. There is a flat cost for parking on match day (₹30 for two-wheelers and ₹60 for cars) until metro operations end.

The atmosphere at Chinnaswamy will be electric with RCB looking to maintain their dominance at home and CSK looking to rebound from an early-season stumble. Thanks to Namma Metro’s proactive planning, fans can concentrate entirely on the “Southern Derby” and not worry about how to get home after the final ball is bowled.
