Jeetendra Mishra has been appointed the first chief executive officer of the Ram Temple Trust which is an important step in the administrative structure on the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Mishra, who served various senior positions in the Indian Air Force’s top command posts, has been selected from more than 5,000 applicants.
The appointment brings a senior military professional to the helm of one of India’s most prominent religious and cultural institutions. Mishra’s experience in management, administration and operational command is going to be very important to the temple trust as it continues to grow and to cope with the growing number of devotees who visit Ayodhya.
Mishra had a lot of commands in the Indian Air Force. He had to do personnel, operations and strategic administration along the way. His experience in managing large organisations and managing complex operations is likely to be of great interest to the CEO's role.
Mishra’s military career went on to include being the Chief of the Indian Air Force’s Western Command. He was there during Operation Sindoor, where he had a very high command position in the Air Force at a time when the command was so key to the operation as much as it is now. His experience at the highest levels of the Air Force will also guide his approach to the management of Ram Temple Trust.
The selection process apparently had an unusually large response, with over 5,000 applications being considered for the position. The selection of a retired Air Marshal shows the importance of professional management and institutional management in the temple’s organisational structure.
As CEO, Mishra will take care of the day-to-day administration of the trust and coordinate various activities in the temple complex. He may be responsible for personnel, infrastructure, visitor management, security coordination, facilities and other operational matters, depending on the structure and mandate assigned to the office.
The Ayodhya Ram Temple has been widely covered in national and international media since the consecration ceremony. The presence of thousands of people to visit the temple and the smooth functioning of the temple has been a big administrative concern. A dedicated CEO is therefore considered as part of the larger strategy to improve the professional management of the institution.
Mishra has a military background and his experience in these areas of disciplined planning, coordination and execution would be useful in this regard. Large-scale institutions and public facilities often necessitate careful planning for manpower and contingency planning which are the areas that senior military officers usually have a great deal of experience in.
