Saifabad Police went to the residence of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC T Madhusudhan Rao, also known as Tata Madhu, in connection with a complaint he and his friend BRS MLC N Naveen Kumar Reddy made “derogatory and abusive remarks” against the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
The police visit to Tata Madhu’s residence comes after Pollepalli Venkatesham, OSD, had filed a complaint naming the two BRS legislators. The complaint was for comments made during a confrontation around a protest, and the matter has become a political issue in Telangana.
The BRS legislators’ claims and others were directed at the Telangana Assembly Speaker, the complaint said. Police are investigating the circumstances of the alleged remarks and events that preceded them, it said.
The development has added another layer to the political conflict between the ruling establishment and opposition leaders in the state. Elected representatives’ comments on constitutional authorities and presiding officers of legislative bodies can be very sensitive and may even lead to legal proceedings.

But the BRS has rejected that Tata Madhu deliberately insulted the Assembly Speaker. According to the party, the BRS MLC has denied making derogatory comments against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
The BRS claims that Tata Madhu's comments were directed at police at the time of the confrontation in the protest. The party believes his comments shouldn’t be interpreted as an insult to the Speaker.
The distinction could become important as the police investigate the complaint, evidence and the exact sequence of events during the protest. The context in which the statements were allegedly made may also be an important part of any further inquiry.
Tata Madhu is a BRS leader and a member of the Telangana Legislative Council. Any police action involving a sitting legislator is likely to attract considerable political attention, especially when the complaint concerns remarks made against the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
