Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje Alleges Massive Irregularities in Voter List Revision, Targets Karnataka Government

Minister Shobha Karandlaje has made serious accusations against the Congress-led Karnataka government, claiming that the voter list revision has been ongoing since the beginning of the month with a huge number of irregularities. The BJP leader has also said the issue of such discrepancies should be made public and that if not, then the electoral process will be compromised.

Karandlaje questioned the way the voter list revision is being carried out and claimed that eligible voters are being removed while ineligible names are being included in the electoral rolls. She said if such irregularities were not addressed, they would lead to poor, free, and fair elections.

The Union Minister further accused the state government of trying to influence the electoral process through administrative interference. The revision exercise should be done according to the Election Commission of India, without any political influence, she said.

Karandlaje sought to see that the Election Commission takes a close look at the voter list and that every citizen can exercise their democratic right. She also requested an investigation into the alleged discrepancies and held officials accountable if any violations were found.

The BJP has maintained that electoral rolls should be prepared in complete transparency as the basis for credible democratic processes. The party’s leaders have said they are concerned that a failure or conscious manipulation of voter lists has been considered a key factor in damaging public confidence in elections.

The Congress government has dismissed claims that political interference in the voter list revision exercise is involved. Government officials maintained that the revision was done according to the Election Commission's prescribed procedures and was made under its supervision.

The voter list revision is a routine procedure that is done periodically to add new voters, delete duplicate or deceased voters, and update voter addresses. The Election Commission coordinates the process with the state election machinery.

Shobha Karandlaje’s allegations have brought a new political dimension to the electoral preparations in Karnataka. The voter roll, always under scrutiny in elections, will be at the center of the debate between the ruling Congress and the BJP.

As of now, the Election Commission has not publicly confirmed any large-scale irregularities in the voter list revision process. Any such discrepancies would need to be verified by an official investigation.
