Ravindra Jadeja has achieved another landmark in Test cricket when he took 350 wickets in Test cricket in India’s ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium. The milestone came on Day 3 of the match on Monday, August 17, when Jadeja dismissed Sri Lanka’s Keshara Nuwantha.
The achievement makes Jadeja the only Indian bowler to reach the 350-wicket mark in Test cricket. He now joins an illustrious group that includes Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Harbhajan Singh.
But the achievement was even more significant because Jadeja joined one of Test cricket’s most exclusive all-rounder clubs.
Jadeja Joins Kapil Dev, Botham and Vettori
Jadeja is only the fourth player in Test history to score over 4,000 runs and take at least 350 wickets. He joins three legendary all-rounders: India's Kapil Dev, England's Ian Botham, and New Zealand's Daniel Vettori.
Jadeja reached the milestone in his 90th Test. Before the match, he had 4,095 runs and 348 wickets. After this, he has joined a very special club, which shows his remarkable consistency with both bat and ball.
The elite list now is:
- Kapil Dev - 5,248 runs, 434 wickets.
- Ian Botham - 5,200 runs, 383 wickets.
- Daniel Vettori - 4,531 runs, 362 wickets.
- Ravindra Jadeja - 4,108 runs, 350 wickets.
Jadeja also reached the double faster than Kapil Dev and Vettori, with only Botham getting there quicker.
Fifth Indian to 350 Test Wickets
Jadeja’s 350th wicket further strengthens his position among India’s great Test bowlers. He is now the fifth Indian to achieve the landmark, following the likes of Kumble, Ashwin, and Harbhajan.
Jadeja has been a key batsman in all formats of the game since he debuted in Test cricket; he has always contributed at some level to India and has been one of the most valuable red-ball cricketers.
The milestone came after a strong bowling performance by India's spinners in Galle. Jadeja and his left-arm partner Manav Suthar took seven wickets as Sri Lanka was bowled out for 284, and India took a 178-run first-innings lead after India got 462.
Among the Greatest Left-Arm Spinners
Jadeja has also entered another exclusive statistical group. He is now only the third left-arm spinner in Test history to take 350 wickets.
Sri Lanka legend Rangana Herath leads the category with 433 wickets, and Daniel Vettori with 362. Jadeja's 350 wickets is third among left-arm spinners in Test history.
His success in Galle shows his longevity in Test cricket and his performance in his career as well. Jadeja's skills in accurate bowling, batting ability, and exceptional fielding make him a very special three-dimensional cricketer.
Another Landmark for India's Star All-Rounder
Jadeja's latest record comes at a time when India are in a strong position for the first Test against Sri Lanka. With 350 wickets, he continued to contribute with the ball, helping India bowl the hosts out for 284 on Day 3.
Jadeja’s achievement on this occasion is yet another sign of his extraordinary career in the longest format. From being one of India’s leading left-arm spinners to now a good Test fielder, he is among the best all-rounders of his generation.
With 4,000-plus Test runs and 350 wickets now officially to his name, Jadeja has joined Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, and Daniel Vettori in an elite club that only four players in Test history have entered.
His latest achievement is just another number in the record books, and it really shows his great balance between his batting and bowling skills over almost a decade of Test cricket.
