SpiceJet Flights Face Operational Disruption in Delhi; Airport Teams Step In to Assist Passengers

SpiceJet flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport faced delays and cancellations after the disruptions on Saturday, September 19 because of the disruption at the airport that affected passengers. Delhi Airport officials said they have been working closely with SpiceJet and other entities to assist passengers affected by the disruption.

The disruption affected the flight schedules of passengers who were stuck in the middle of their busy travel plans, with some services delayed and others cancelled. Ground-handling teams and airport staff were sent to work with passengers and airline representatives in coordination to assist them. Delhi Airport expressed regret for the inconvenience and said the airport’s teams were working to assist passengers during the disruption.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Delhi Airport said it was working with the airline and all the stakeholders to coordinate and organise the best possible assistance for affected passengers. Passengers were advised to continue to be in touch with the airline for the latest flight information and to contact on-ground airport staff for help.

The disruption comes only days after another SpiceJet-related incident at Delhi Airport involving flights to Dubai. On September 15, passengers travelling on two Dubai-bound SpiceJet flights SG 5111 and SG 5105 faced significant delays after the services were repeatedly rescheduled. Around 200 passengers protested at Terminal 3 as they grew tired of the long wait.

The airline has been dealing with continuing operational and financial problems. Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said earlier this month that the government regularly talks with airlines to understand their operational challenges and had also been talking with SpiceJet. He said the government was encouraging the airline to increase its operations, especially by addressing its financial situation. SpiceJet is also in search of funds through the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), according to government statements.

The recent disruptions have made checking flight status before travelling much more important in case an airline is experiencing problems. SpiceJet’s official website advises passengers to check their flight status before departure because timings can change.

All passengers who are on the way to Delhi Airport should contact their airline for updated information regarding departure times, cancellations, or alternative arrangements. Airport teams are also on hand to help where necessary.

By Saturday afternoon, Delhi Airport had confirmed that some SpiceJet services were affected by the operational disruption. However, SpiceJet had not yet issued a formal statement on Saturday's disruption at the time of the latest reports. The number of affected flights and passengers was not immediately known by airport authorities.

The situation is being monitored by airport and airline representatives to help affected travellers and restore normal flight operations. SpiceJet passengers who will travel on trips from Delhi are advised to check their individual flight status with the airline before leaving for the airport.
