Gurugram Police, along with Haryana State Commission for Women, conducted a major late-night raid at 18 spa centres operating in Sapphire 90 Mall in Sector 90, Gurugram. The joint operation began around 10 p.m. on Friday and lasted till 3 am on Saturday morning, as suo motu cognisance of suspected illegal activities at the establishments was made.
According to police, approximately 30 women and 20 men were found during simultaneous searches of the spa premises. All 50 people were detained for questioning as investigators examined their roles and circumstances. Police said the role of the men in these establishments was also being verified and further legal action will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
The raid included all 18 spa centres at the mall. Police said prima facie evidence of suspected illegal activities was found at eight of the 18 establishments. Electronic and digital devices, physical material and documents were seized during the operation and are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The operation involved nearly 100 police personnel, including more than 20 inspectors and sub-inspectors. The action was conducted in the presence of Usha Priyadarshini, Chairperson of Haryana State Commission for Women, along with her team and a duty magistrate.
The operation was supervised by ACP Headquarters-I Gurugram Abhilash Joshi, who is also a Special Police Officer under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
Police said the investigation would examine whether owners, operators, managers and other individuals were involved in or facilitated the illegal activities. The seized electronic material, documents and other evidence will help to determine what happened at the centres and whether an organised network was operating through the establishments.
Women found at the site are being questioned to establish the circumstances in which they were working or present at the spa centres. Police also want to know who is involved with the suspected activities, and the investigation into their involvement. Detentions are part of the investigation and legal action will be taken based on what is discovered, officials said.

The operation comes as Gurugram authorities continue to look into commercial establishments where activities unrelated to their stated business are taking place. Police said the move was to follow up on organised illegal activities taking place in the guise of legitimate commercial establishments.
The preliminary investigation and proceedings were conducted by the ACP Headquarters-I and designated Special Police Officer. Further investigation has been assigned to the Station House Officer of Kherki Daula police station in Gurugram. Investigators will now analyse the material seized during the raid and determine whether offences have been committed and who, if anyone, should face legal action.
Gurugram Police has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on organised illegal activities conducted by legitimate commercial businesses. However, authorities have not yet revealed the final legal provisions which can be invoked against individuals or the establishments. The investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken if the investigation is successful.
The Sapphire 90 Mall raid has received national attention because of the scale of the operation, with 18 spa centres searched at once and nearly 100 police personnel involved. Since eight establishments were searched and 50 people detained for questioning, investigators will now examine the full details of the suspected activities to establish whether there was a coordinated operation across the centres.
