Swiggy Instamart has teamed with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for the country’s first on-demand LPG cylinder delivery service on a quick-commerce platform. The service will be launched as an experiment in Bengaluru for a small number of customers and will be a step towards speedier and more convenient household services.
The collaboration combines Swiggy Instamart's huge last-mile delivery network and HPCL's trusted LPG distribution system. Through the Swiggy Instamart app, customers participating in the pilot will be able to order LPG cylinders on the Swiggy Instamart app, and cooking gas will be available to them, adding cooking gas to the rapidly growing quick-commerce ecosystem of groceries, medicines, electronics, and other everyday essentials.

Quick commerce has changed the way people shop in a hurry because it promises those goods in minutes, not hours and days. Adding LPG cylinders to this model transforms what we know of retail products into something that can be turned into a utility and can change the way households manage one of their most important daily needs.
People typically book cylinders through distributor websites, mobile applications, customer care numbers, and dealer networks, and delivery times can be hours or even days long and vary depending on local demand and availability. The new partnership will result in significantly lower waiting times by fulfilling cylinders faster through a digital ordering system.
The pilot project in Bengaluru will help both firms assess customer demand, operational efficiency, delivery timing, and safety measures, and to assess customer satisfaction and explore further expansion to other cities in India.
The safety of the LPG cylinders is a priority when transporting them. Such cylinders are hazardous products. Storage, transportation, verification, and doorstep delivery of LPG cylinders are required by the company, and the company is expected to comply with all regulations on storage, transportation, verification, and doorstep delivery. The delivery personnel handling LPG cylinders will undergo training for safe transportation and customer service.
For consumers, the service is more convenient in emergencies when they suddenly run out of cooking gas. They may be able to order replacement cylinders much faster than the traditional delivery system, as in the case of the quick-commerce system.
The project also showcases the quick evolution of India’s digital commerce ecosystem. Quick-commerce platforms have expanded beyond groceries in the past few years and have entered home essentials, personal care products, consumer electronics, pet supplies, stationery, and even fashion accessories. LPG delivery illustrates the way these platforms are providing a broad range of daily household needs.
Industry experts believe the partnership could inspire similar collaborations between energy companies and digital delivery platforms. If the Bengaluru pilot works out, other oil marketing companies may try to experiment with the use of on-demand delivery services.
The launch also supports India’s digital transformation agenda by leveraging technology to enhance customer experience and service accessibility. Mobile applications, digital payments, GPS-enabled logistics, and real-time order tracking are now the driving forces in modern-day commerce, allowing people to buy products and services faster and more efficiently than ever.
For HPCL, the partnership is an opportunity to modernize customer engagement while adding to its LPG distribution network. Quick-commerce might not replace traditional distributors but could be a new delivery channel, especially in densely populated urban areas where the need for fast fulfillment is ever higher.
Swiggy Instamart also expands its services beyond grocery delivery. LPG cylinders are also making the company a more attractive product in the fast-growing quick-commerce business in India.
Citizens of cities demand more flexibility and access to essential services quickly. This collaboration between Swiggy Instamart and HPCL is representative of this shift by marrying digital convenience to one of the country’s most important household utilities.
If the Bengaluru pilot achieves its intended goals, India’s first on-demand LPG cylinder delivery service could serve as a model for future innovations in quick commerce, making essential energy supplies available in a faster way while establishing new standards for convenience, efficiency, and customer service.
