A 21-year-old nurse was found dead in her accommodation near a private hospital in Telangana's Rangareddy district, leading to a murder investigation. Hyderabad police detained a 34-year-old man after viewing CCTV footage and other evidence in connection with the case.

The deceased, identified as Uke Shireesha, had been working as a nurse at Prime Care Hospital in Thukkuguda for about seven months. She was staying in accommodation provided near the hospital along with other nursing staff, the police said.

Nurse Found Dead After Colleagues Raised Alarm

According to the report, Shireesha completed her duties on Friday night and went to her room at around 10 pm. When she did not reply to attempts to contact her the next day, her colleagues became worried.

One of her colleagues eventually entered the room through a window and found Shireesha dead inside. Police said she had injuries on her face, leading them to initially register a murder case and investigate the circumstances of her death.

The incident occurred in the Pahadishareef area of Hyderabad. Other reports also said that the nurse was a native of Khammam district.

Police began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and collected evidence from the area. CCTV footage and other evidence eventually helped investigators identify a suspect, NDTV said.

Police Arrest 34-Year-Old Suspect

The police identified the suspect as MD Sanaullah Khan, a 34-year-old man from Bihar. He was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.

The investigation is focused on what happened in the nurse’s accommodation and the circumstances surrounding her death. Police are assessing the available evidence as they follow up on the case.

According to another report, police had earlier detained a man from Bihar while investigating the death and were waiting for post-mortem findings. The investigation then resulted in the arrest reported by NDTV.

The circumstances of the alleged sexual assault have also become part of the case. BJP leader Andela Sriramulu, who is the BJP in-charge for the Maheshwaram constituency, claimed that Shireesha was sexually assaulted and murdered. The allegation should be distinguished from facts established by the police investigation.

Sriramulu said Shireesha was a "tribal daughter" and demanded justice for her family. He also called for strict action against the accused and demanded an “encounter” with the suspect.

Nurses' Association in Search of Better Security

Nursing staff working in hospital accommodation have also expressed concerns about their safety.

The Telangana Nurses Association wrote to health department officials following the incident. The association requested the government to take measures to provide nursing officers with a safe, secure, and dignified working environment.

The request comes as the investigation is ongoing into the death of Shireesha, who had worked at the private hospital for several months before the incident.

Police are still examining the evidence in the case, including CCTV footage and other material collected during the investigation. The arrest of Sanaullah Khan is a significant development, but the investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding Shireesha's death and establish the allegations against the accused.

As the police continue to probe the cause of the 21-year-old nurse’s death, so do political leaders and nursing colleagues.
