The incident occurred near the Teen Hath Naka foot overbridge, one of the city's busiest traffic junctions. The giant banner, which was made to display birthday wishes, quickly fell onto the road below, according to preliminary reports.

A motorcyclist was underneath the overbridge when the banner collapsed, and he was hit on the head. The impact caused panic as a couple of cars were driving along the stretch at the same time.

Fortunately, the rider was not seriously injured. Witnesses rushed to help him immediately after the crash, and traffic slowed for a moment as the fallen banner was cleared from the road.

The accident could have been a much more serious one, given the high volume of traffic on the Eastern Express Highway. The falling structure also narrowly missed many other vehicles and prevented a multi-vehicle collision.

The images of the scene soon went on social media, and the safety of large banners and hoardings on public infrastructure was once again raised. Many citizens asked how permissions were obtained and how secure the banner was before installation.

The collapse is being investigated for possible reasons such as poor installation, high winds, or structural failure. Municipal authorities may also look over if the banner was in line with municipal guidelines on temporary advertisements and celebrations.

Civic authorities have repeatedly warned against the unauthorized installation of oversized banners, especially on bridges, flyovers, and public roads, as such would be dangerous to commuters. Similar situations in the past have resulted in the enforcement of illegal hoardings and unsafe public displays.

After the latest incident, residents have asked the city to conduct inspections of banners and hoardings across the city to prevent similar accidents. Road safety experts have also stressed the importance of enforcing regulations so that celebrations in public do not interfere with commuter safety.

The incident serves to underscore the dangers of improperly constructed structures in high-traffic areas. The motorcycle rider was uninjured in the incident, and authorities would have to take action if anything is found to be wrong.
