A sudden and potentially dangerous incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district left a 60-year-old elderly man trapped in a fallen electrical wire after a tree suddenly fell on the roof of a house; the incident was recorded on video on Tuesday. Local shopkeepers rushed to rescue him.
According to the information available, the incident took place in the Khari Kuan area under the jurisdiction of Dhampur Police Station. A tree on or near the rooftop of a house suddenly fell, bringing down an electrical wire onto the road below.
One elderly man was walking on the road when he became entangled in the fallen wire, said the report. People around them were scared as an electrical line on the road was a danger to the man and others in the vicinity as well.
Local shopkeepers who witnessed the situation immediately reacted to the situation. By presence of mind, they rushed to help the elderly man and managed to pull him out of the wire. The timely intervention could have prevented what could have been a more severe affair.
The video of the incident is also being released on YouTube, where the tree fell and the elderly man got trapped in the electrical wire. People who were at the scene trying to help him are also shown in the footage.
All roads and shops are very close to residential buildings, and a falling tree can cause power lines to collapse in seconds, not to mention pedestrians, drivers, and residents living nearby.
The shopkeepers’ quick response has been widely noted, as approaching a fallen electrical wire can itself be extremely dangerous if the line remains live. Their awareness and immediate response helped get the elderly man away from the hazardous spot.
The elderly man’s condition after the rescue could not be ascertained from the information. More information on the cause of the tree falling and if electricity supply was interrupted in the region may be forthcoming as authorities investigate the situation.
The incident took place in the Khari Kuan locality of Dhampur, which falls within the Dhampur Police Station limits of Bijnor district. The video of the incident has attracted attention to the need to be aware and act early in case of power line emergencies in the area of electricity lines.
Such incidents also underscore the need for regular inspection of trees near buildings and roads and proper maintenance of electrical infrastructure. Power lines and electricity departments need to identify vulnerable trees and ensure that power lines are safely positioned to protect from unexpected events.
The elderly pedestrian experienced a life-changing situation. Thanks to the early intervention of nearby shopkeepers, he was rescued from the fallen wire before the situation could escalate further.
