A very surprising cannabis cultivation case has been reported from Gubbi taluk in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, where police found a large cannabis plant being secretly grown inside a farm. Hitendra, son of a head constable attached to Chelur Police Station, was arrested for cultivation.
According to the information provided by police, the cannabis plant had been grown among other crops at a farm in Guddadahalli Hatti in a covert way. The Chelur police searched and found the plant to be at an impressive height of about eight feet.
Police seized some 950 grams of cannabis leaves in the operation.
Head Constable’s Son Arrested
Hitendra’s arrest has attracted attention because his father is now a head constable in the same police station where the case has been registered. It was a pretty embarrassing moment for the family when police action revealed that the accused was allegedly cultivating cannabis on the farm.
Hitendra was allegedly taking care of the cannabis plant by providing water and fertiliser, according to the preliminary police report. The plant was being grown along with other plants on the farm, so it was less noticeable.
Police are now investigating the purpose of the cultivation, and the investigation into the use of cannabis was conducted to either consume or sale.
The police raid followed specific information
The operation was carried out after Chelur police received information about cannabis cultivation in the area. It was led by Gubbi Circle Inspector Raghavendra and Chelur Police Sub-Inspector Malappa.
A man named Mahesh was detained by police before they could identify the alleged cultivator, as they searched for someone who was watering the farm, they said. When the police were questioning him, they managed to find out about the farm owner, Hitendra.
The investigation subsequently revealed the cannabis plant among the other crops.
Hitendra, when the police team conducted the raid, admitted that he had cultivated the plant himself, according to the preliminary account of the incident.
Eight-Foot Plant Seized
The cannabis plant was said to be about eight feet tall and healthy and well-grown. Police seized the plant and other suspected cannabis material as part of the investigation.
The recovered cannabis leaves were reportedly weighed at around 950 grams.
The authorities will look at the seized material in the legal investigation. Details of the alleged cultivation - for example, how long the plant had been growing and if any other individuals were involved - may emerge further as the investigation continues.
Case Registered at Chelur Police Station
A case has been registered at Chelur Police Station against Hitendra for the alleged cultivation of cannabis. The fact that the accused’s father works at the same station has been a very special element in the case.
Police are now investigating the cultivation and the alleged purpose for which the cannabis plant was grown. There may also be an intention to distribute or sell the substance.
