The man was arrested in Heggere village of Tumakuru taluk after he allegedly walked around carrying a machete and attempted to attack a resident with a deadly weapon, said a police officer. The incident has raised the alarm among residents, and police registered a case based on the complaint filed by the alleged victim, he said.
The accused is Ibrahim, who was reportedly staying in a rented accommodation in Heggere and works as a tender coconut vendor. Police took action after he publicly displayed a weapon and threatened to kill Rajanna, a resident of the area.
According to the complaint, the incident was connected to an old dispute between the two men.
Alleged Machete Attack Attempt
Rajanna reportedly told police that Ibrahim followed him while carrying a machete and attempted to attack him with the weapon, according to his report.
The complainant reportedly tried to record the accused’s actions on his mobile phone. Ibrahim allegedly displayed the weapon in public and threatened Rajanna, reportedly telling him that he would kill him.
The accused also claimed that he had a gun and tried to intimidate the complainant by saying that he was from Shivajinagar.
Fearing for his life, Rajanna reportedly approached the police and filed a complaint, it said.
Old Dispute Allegedly Led to Incident
According to the complaint, the incident was linked to an earlier fight near a railway station, which allegedly occurred while they were travelling on motorcycles at the time.
The previous dispute is believed to have triggered the latest clash. Rajanna alleged that Ibrahim had been holding a grudge following the earlier incident and followed him with the intention of attacking him.
The complainant reportedly tried to record the alleged threatening behaviour on his mobile phone, after which the situation escalated.
Before residents could intervene, Ibrahim allegedly fled the location on an unregistered motorcycle, according to the police.
Allegations of Public Threat and Caste Abuse
The complaint also contains serious charges of public caste-based abuse and an attempt to attack the complainant.
According to the complaint, police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
