Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Cold Grip Karnataka, Bengaluru Braces for a Wet Weekend

Residents across Karnataka, especially in the southern and coastal regions, are advised to prepare for a significant spell of wet and cold weather. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain is highly likely over many districts in South Interior Karnataka (SIK) today, November 29, 2025, with conditions also affecting parts of Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka.

The unseasonal downpour is being influenced by weather systems, including a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, and is resulting in a noticeable dip in temperatures across the state.

Key Forecast Highlights

  • Bengaluru (Urban & Rural): The city is under a heavy rain forecast for the day. While the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 25°C to 27°C, the persistent rainfall and high humidity are intensifying the chill. Minimum temperatures in the city have already fallen below normal, and a drop as low as 16°C is expected. Mist is also very likely during the early morning hours.
  • South Interior Karnataka (SIK): Districts including Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Chamarajanagara, Ramanagara, and Mysuru are particularly at risk of heavy rain and thundershowers.
  • Coastal Karnataka: Isolated to scattered light to moderate rain is likely over districts like Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
  • North Interior Karnataka (NIK): While some districts in the north are likely to remain dry, this region continues to experience a cold wave-like situation, with minimum temperatures in pockets like Bidar falling well below the seasonal normal.

Advisory for Residents

The combination of rain and cold necessitates precautions for all residents:

  • Commuters: Expect waterlogging and traffic congestion in low-lying areas, especially in Bengaluru. Allow extra time for travel and drive cautiously.
  • Health: The cooler, damp weather increases the risk of seasonal illnesses. Residents, particularly the elderly and children, should wear layered and warm clothing and take necessary steps to maintain body heat.
  • Air Quality: The rain is expected to help settle pollutants, which may offer a temporary improvement in air quality, which has been in the 'Poor' to 'Moderate' category recently.
