What is Sarvam Kaze? India's 1st Indigenous AI Glasses Worn by PM Modi

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried on Sarvam Kaze, the AI Impact Summit 2026 in Bharat Mandapam was a landmark moment for Indian hardware. With its own technology that enables the user to touch, feel, and communicate, Sarvam is a pair of smart glasses designed by Sarvam AI in Bengaluru.

With the emergence of products as well as data sharing technology, India's foray into consumer AI hardware has brought it into parity with the giants Meta and Apple.

What is Sarvam Kaze?

Sarvam Kaze (Japanese for "Wind") is a pair of AI wearable spectacles designed and created entirely in India. Unlike traditional AI which lives behind a smartphone screen, Kaze is a physical thing of bringing AI into the physical world. The device "listen, understand, respond, and capture" the wearer’s eyes as he observes in real time (Sarvam AI Co-founder Pratyush Kumar). It effectively transforms the user environment into some interactive digital world.

Key Features and Capabilities

Although the full technical specifications will be closely guarded in the months leading up to the commercial launch, the summit revealed several of the core features:

  • Multilingual AI: Kaze is powered by Sarvam's in-house foundational models trained on Indian language and regional dialects.
  • Visual Intelligence: Embedded cameras empower the AI to “see” and interpret objects, text or scenes, offering almost real-time feedback via voice or intelligence.
  • Users can interact with the glasses voice-to-voice either to make calls, transcribe documents or receive translations instantly.
  • Developer Platform Sarvam is developing its platform for developers to create custom experiences: custom tools for doctors, for engineers, for students etc.

Market Launch and "Modi Touch"

Prime Minister Modi has been the first to formally test the device, through a tour of the exhibition. Photos showing the PM wearing black and sleek frames went viral on the Internet and were another signal of substantial government backing for AI innovation made in the country itself.

The Prime Minister reportedly tested these glasses' real-time response capability, engaging with AI in a local Indian language. Sarvam AI confirms that Sarvam Kaze will be available for sale by the public beginning May 2026.

Why This Matters

The market for smart glasses has been dominated for years by the Meta Ray-Ban partnership. But that device base is predominantly Western, and based on English-centric models. Sarvam Kaze is a “Sovereign AI” product it keeps Indian data in the country and makes sure the technology is designed for the distinctive lingo and culture of 1.4 billion Indians.

As part of the ₹10,372 crore IndiaAI Mission (with a ₹10,372 crore total investment), Sarvam Kaze is a testament to India's progress from being a consumer of global tech to a maker of world-class hardware.
