Agra’s recent video has sparked concern and discussion on social media. In the clip, three young boys check out of a budget hotel room that they rented for a mere ₹500. But rather than disappear quietly, they ruined the room, spoiling the linens, stealing light bulbs. Even worse, they put the video online with a big smile, claiming it was “chill maarna” or, that was their fun. Such a thing has sent us to a very different place, to re-evaluate what fun means and the kind of values we’re putting on the shelf among our next generation.
The video is of a simple room with simple furniture. The boys didn’t even respect this space; they treated it as garbage. Their conduct was not just reckless it was disrespectful and damaging. No matter how small, it’s not joking to damage property and steal items. It breaches trust and adds to the pressure on those who labor to keep those places functioning.
Three young boys.

Book a room in Agra for just ₹500.
Spoiling linens and stealing light bulbs while checking out because that's apparently "chill maarna."

What kind of generation are we raising! pic.twitter.com/Zi8a8U7Wnk
Others may reply with, “They’re just kids,” or “It’s innocent fun.” But that kind of behavior has real implications. When young people turn destruction into entertainment, it’s symptomatic of an even deeper problem. It is a lack of empathy, a disdain for others’ struggles and a failure to understand the meaning of freedom. Fun should never be at the expense of another person’s peace or property.
Social media is an important driver of young people’s behavior. In this situation, the boys utilized it as a form of flaunting their behavior, and an eye to the likes and attention. But what does that message send? That breaking rules is cool? That people are supposed to laugh and that people disrespect each other? When it goes viral, it’s dangerous, because such material can spread the message to others that behavior can be common, even trendy.
This incident isn’t simply a case of three boys; it’s a case of the environment that encourages this kind of behavior. Teaching children respect, kindness and responsibility. Are we allowing entertainment and peer pressure to lead them to act the way they do? Parents, educators and society should ask this: Is it all about guiding our adolescent generations to empathy and responsibility? Are we teaching them to learn the distinction between fun and harm?
To the young individuals viewing and sharing these videos: ‘Being young is about exploration, learning and pleasure. Youth is a period of experience in the good and the bad. But fun is not the result of inflicting pain on others or flouting the rules. It derives from creativity, compassion and common happiness. And if you are traveling, treat the place like home. If you’re creating content, keep in mind what’s being sent in the message. With friends, challenge one another to perform better, not worse.
The Agra hotel story is a wake-up call. It demonstrates how the easy thing to do, in any form, is to end up doing injury when values are stripped. It’s time to reimagine what “chill maarna” really means. Let it be relaxing with respect. Let it mean enjoying without damage. Let it mean taking pride in actions that build, not damage. To the youth of today: You can write the future. Use it wisely. Reflecting back what life looks like in your world, you want to live it by being respectful, kind, and taking responsibility.
