Devendra Fadnavis has repeatedly rejected rumours of a state-wide lockdown following heavy speculation and panic by people who bought fuel across different parts of Maharashtra. That came on days before petrol pump queues were seen at pumps too and even on post-election messaging.
Fadnavis told citizens not to believe or spread misinformation and there was no plan to lock down. He noted that basic supplies, such as fuel, are sufficient and there will be no panic bought.
The rumours had caused panic in the cities, especially there were residents in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur who rushed to petrol stations for fear of restrictions on movement. In some places they had a supply shortage but traffic in and around fuel outlets was jammed.
There are still supply chains operational and petroleum companies have sufficient stock to satisfy demand as state administration officials confirmed. And authorities, too, are watching the situation closely not to get hoarding to keep the country fair and smooth and to have regular deliveries.
Our Chief Minister issued warning to individuals who give inaccurate information or spread panicful thought at will that we can crack down on those who spread false knowledge and fear. We must only use official government communication channels to update.
Experts said that excessive panic-driven behavior often leads to artificially generated shortages, even when basic supply is reliable. The policy was to keep others calm and not make unnecessary purchases, Citizens have been told.
Government Advisory
No lockdown has been announced in Maharashtra. Supply of fuels is also stable. Avoid panic buying and misinformation. Follow official government updates.
The Maharashtra government has said there is no need to worry of a lockdown at the time of interview. The focus has to stay on maintaining normal life and uninterrupted supply of essential services. Citizens need to take a responsible approach to the spreading of information and should not try to incite the spreading of rumours as well, MNC said.
