The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally dispelled the speculation, saying Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate and Fielding Coach T Dilip did not resign from the national men’s side. As per BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, the two coaches’ resignations were naturally due to contract terminations and not sudden resignations. Ryan ten Doeschate’s contract was officially completed on 10 June and T Dilip’s (one-year extension) contract closed on 8 June.
The board is already working on filling the vacant positions, with Saikia saying that conversations are now in progress with two to three potential candidates. Some of the final details are to be drawn down within a day or two, so that India goes to Sri Lanka with a new coaching team for their first week of August for a crucial two-match Test series. There is a huge change in the national team’s backroom team. Ryan ten Doeschate, who is considered a close tactical mentor of his head coach Gautam Gambhir, has already quit his position with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League to join Gambhir’s national team. Doeschate is likely to return to KKR before the 2027 season after he left the Indian camp.
On the other hand, T Dilip's departure has been a successful and long run for Indian cricket and started back in 2021 under head coach Rahul Dravid. Dilip was one of the only members of Dravid's coaching staff that survived and retained his position in Gambhir's charge. Even if he was later removed as a fielding coach in 2025 Champions Trophy, the BCCI brought him back for the England Test series. And with Dilip now moving on alongside Doeschate, the team’s biggest names - head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel, who left Lucknow Super Giants for the national side - will have two more incoming specialists to the team's coaching side. As the Indian cricket team heads to Sri Lanka in the first week of August, there is no doubt these appointments will help to keep the team competitive and win on the global stage.
