The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced an abrupt shake-up of the backroom coaching staff of the team as assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip were removed from their positions. The top board in mid-2026 decided not to give any new contracts to their coaches to prepare for the upcoming bilateral match in Sri Lanka. Both coaches were to travel and coach the team in the white-ball series against England, but the board formally wished them the best for the next international tour.
Acknowledged for their tireless efforts, the BCCI sent a message on social media to thank them for their dedication and appreciated their service. They are appreciated for the time spent working and dedication, and the best wishes for their highly successful team were said to them, and the board thanked assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip for their contributions in the past years for all the hard work.
Ryan ten Doeschate was a member of the Indian coaching team in 2024 when he joined the coaching team of Gautam Gambhir. The only Netherlands international to ever play in the Indian Premier League, ten Doeschate had a close relationship with Gambhir before his time with KKR as a fielding coach who would guide the team to a third IPL win in 2024. His move to the national team was not too far away from those of other great backroom staff.
T Dilip's departure ends a five-year partnership with Team India. Dilip was the only person of Dravid's legacy staff to retain his position in 2024 when Gambhir was appointed as the national support coach. So popular in cricket for the so-called field medal ceremony at the end of games as well as the post-match ceremony, Dilip served a five-year term with many tour games.
With these high-profile dismissals coming, the BCCI was quick to reorganise the team's coaching and appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new Fielding Coach for the Indian Men's Cricket Team. Ghosh has vast experience from the domestic and international coaching backgrounds of India A, the India women's team, and the National Cricket Academy (BCCI Centre of Excellence). His IPL experience is also very rich as he was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals teams and had a tour overseas with the women's team to Australia. Ghosh will make his first start as Fielding Coach in the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
