The opening week of the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League saw a lot of action in the first half of the week and it was a great night of European football as six games completed Matchday 1. The evening started with a tight match between **Fenerbahçe and AS Roma** - both teams only able to draw once, and neither side could find a second goal to show for themselves with a point in the first group of the Champions League.

One of the night’s biggest stories was from Italy, where **Como achieved a spectacular 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig**.
For the first time, Como showed little fear against their more experienced German opponents in European competition. Their four-goal performance turned the match into one of the most remarkable results of the first week.
The huge victory boosts Como greatly as they begin their European adventure.
Bayern Munich Overcome Early Resistance
Bayern Munich also made a statement and defeated Bodø/Glimt 5-0. The Norwegian side initially gave stiff resistance, but Bayern's quality eventually began to tell.
Once the German giants found their rhythm, they took control and displayed the kind of attacking display expected from one of Europe’s traditional powerhouses.
The five-goal victory immediately puts Bayern among the teams attracting attention after Matchday 1.
Manchester United Cruise to Four-Goal Victory
Manchester United enjoyed another comfortable evening and defeated Sabah 4-0.
United dominated and turned their superiority into a commanding lead. A good start to their Champions League campaign and a good start to the next round of games for the club will give them encouragement.
United had four goals and a clean sheet with one of the most convincing performances of the night.

Lens Edge Slavia Prague in Thriller
The final match produced lots of drama as **Lens beat 10-man Slavia Prague 3-2**.
Slavia's numerical disadvantage made the task even harder, but the Czech side continued to compete until the final whistle. Lens finally won a valuable victory in a five-goal thriller.
A Night Full of European Drama
With big wins for Bayern Munich and Manchester United and Como making a wonderful start and several tight games, the final night of Champions League Matchday 1 was a great one for fans to discuss.
The opening week has already provided goals, comebacks, surprises and statement victories, and the stage is set for a very exciting European campaign in 2026-27.
