Trade speculation surrounding Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has taken a new lease of life as Punjab Kings (PBKS) are reportedly closer to signing the Mumbai Indians (MI) captain ahead of IPL 2027.
The talks between the two franchises are said to be at an advanced stage and Hardik could move to Punjab in the proposed deal while India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod could join Mumbai Indians.
However neither franchise nor IPL governing body has officially confirmed the reported agreement.
Hardik Pandya Trade: What Is the Proposed Deal?
The reported player swap could be one of the biggest talking points ahead of IPL 2027.
In the proposed deal Punjab Kings would get Hardik Pandya from Mumbai Indians. Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod are reportedly being considered in exchange for Hardik Pandya.
Senior officials of both franchises have reportedly met and negotiations have gone a long way. If the teams reach an agreement then paperwork could be sent to IPL officials.
Punjab are said to be looking for an experienced all-rounder with bat and ball who can help them.
Why Punjab Kings Are Interested in Hardik
Hardik Pandya has plenty of IPL experience and leadership. He captained Gujarat Titans when they won the title in their first season (2022) and took them to the final in 2023.
His balance between batting and bowling could be a valuable asset to Punjab’s side.
Ricky Ponting is involved in the team’s coaching set-up and Shreyas Iyer leads the side so Hardik could give Punjab another match-winner if he does come.
Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod Could Move to Mumbai
For Mumbai Indians the proposed trade might fill some important squad needs.
Arshdeep Singh is an established left-arm fast bowler who can bowl in the powerplay and death overs. He could add to Mumbai’s pace attack if he comes.
Vishnu Vinod could also add wicketkeeping and batting options.
However, Arshdeep’s exit would be a big development for Punjab as he is important to India’s limited overs bowling attack and also part of the franchise.
Are Other IPL Teams Interested in Hardik?
Punjab Kings aren’t the only franchise that looked at Hardik.
Kolkata Knight Riders have also been named as another team that Mumbai Indians had talks with. They were said to be considering a multi-player deal but those talks haven’t led to an agreement yet.
It could all change depending on the final demands of the franchises and players.
No Official Confirmation Yet
The Hardik Pandya trade story is unfolding as franchises gear up for IPL 2027. The retention deadline reported to have been set has made it even more urgent and reports say if talks are completed an announcement could be made.
However the proposed swap between Hardik and Arshdeep and Vishnu Vinod is yet to be confirmed.
Until Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and IPL release an official statement about it the move should be treated as a trade report rather than a completed transfer.
For now, Hardik’s future and whether Arshdeep moves to Mumbai will be the main talking points among IPL fans.
