India’s junior women’s hockey team continued their good form at the 2026 Women’s Junior Asia Cup as they thumped Japan 4–0 to advance into the quarterfinals.
India March into Quarterfinals with Commanding 7-0 Win Over Japan
Moqi, China 8 September 2026: India’s Junior Women’s Hockey Team put on another emphatic display at the 2026 Women’s Junior Asia Cup as they beat Japan 7–0 in their third Elite Pool match. The comprehensive win took India’s winning run to three and they are now through to the quarterfinals.
The defending champions had come into the match in confident mood after beating Korea 4–1 in their opening game and then winning 11–1 against Malaysia. Against Japan India again showed their attacking prowess as they dominated from the whistle to win 3–0 and stay perfect in the tournament.
India Make Fast Start
India didn't take long to make their presence felt. Krishna Sharma scored in the fifth minute giving India an early lead and four minutes later Supriya doubled the lead after a Japanese defender fouled inside the circle.
India continued to push forward and got a third goal before the end of the first quarter. Purnima Yadav scored with a field goal in the 14th minute to leave India 3-0 ahead at half time.
Japan were more attacking in the second quarter but India’s defence held firm and they didn’t allow their opponents back into the game. Neither side scored before half-time so India went into half-time with a comfortable three goal lead.
Three Goals in Five Minutes
India switched into gear in the third quarter and produced a spell of attacking hockey. Geeta Yadav opened the scoring in the 41st minute before completing her brace in the 45th minute. Just a minute later Purnima Yadav scored her second goal and by half time India were 6-0 up.
The Indian team kept their intensity in the last quarter. Sanika Chandrakant Mane scored in the 50th minute to make it 7–0 and complete a memorable performance for the team. India comfortably saw out the rest of the match to record their third straight win.
Nine Points from Three Matches
The result put India at the top of Elite Pool with nine points from three matches while China have six from two. India play China in their final pool game on September 9 and will know who tops the group then.
Qualification is already in the bag so India will want to take their attacking momentum and defensive discipline into the knockout stage as they continue their quest for another strong finish at Women’s Junior Asia Cup.
