India won the second ODI of the five-match series against New Zealand by four runs under DLS method on 7 November 2026. In Wellington, rain affected the match and India’s bowlers did well before bad weather brought an early end to the match.
The win helped India consolidate their position in the ODI series after winning the opening match.
New Zealand Bowled Out for 134 Runs
India won the toss and chose to bowl first which worked out well as the visitors dominated New Zealand’s batting line-up.
New Zealand could not build partnerships and lost wickets regularly. India bowlers kept the pressure on with disciplined bowling and made it hard for home side to score.
Daryl Mitchell top scored for New Zealand with 55 runs. Captain Mitchell Santner made 31 but the other batters failed to make a big contribution.
Gurnoor Brar was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for 30 runs in his 10 overs. Auqib Nabi, Anshul Kamboj and Axar Patel picked up two wickets each.
New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs and India now had 135 to score.
India's Chase Gets Off to a Difficult Start
India’s chase didn’t start off as planned as the top order struggled against New Zealand’s bowling.
The early wickets put pressure on the middle order and Indian batters had to rebuild from there. Shreyas Iyer scored 30 but they continued to lose wickets in chase.
New Zealand bowlers tried to take advantage of the situation. Kyle Jamieson was one of the leading performers with three wickets for 35 runs.
India were 113/7 after 26 overs when rain stopped the match. Even though it was a difficult chase, the visitors were ahead under the revised DLS calculations.

DLS Method Confirms India's Victory
With persistent rain preventing further play, match officials had to decide the result using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
DLS calculation showed that India’s par score at the end of 26 overs was 109 runs. But India had scored 113 runs and were four runs ahead of the required par score.
As a result India were declared winners by four runs.
The result showed how important India’s bowling was (Gurnoor Brar had a four-wicket haul) as New Zealand were restricted to such a low total.
India Strengthen Their Position in the Series
The second ODI win gave India another important result on their New Zealand tour. Winning a rain affected game also showed that the team could compete under difficult conditions.
India’s bowlers will take confidence from this performance and batting unit will look to improve their consistency in the coming matches.
New Zealand meanwhile will look to bounce back from the defeat and make a stronger comeback in the rest of fixtures.
There are still more matches in the series so both teams will have a chance to work on their weaknesses and build momentum before the next match.
