IPL Reel Gone Wrong: Woman Loses ₹70,000 Ring at Punjab Stadium

Today, in the age of social media, chasing “likes” and “shares” produces expensive regrets. That was the bitter lesson of a cricket fan at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh during the latest Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. A playful Instagram reel turned into a financial panic after a woman found out she lost an elaborate diamond ring valued at ₹70,000.

The Ill-Fated Stunt

Well, that was on April 11, 2026, when fans are in the throes of excitement during that match and all they can do is check in. The Instagram user Madhu Priya decided to join the current social media trend whereby one throws a ring into the air for a ‘floating’ optical effect on video.

The recording started as she threw her expensive ring into the air and tried to pick it up or drop it in her lap. But the plan went terribly wrong. Rather than smoothly flipping from one side to the other, the ring slipped and fell from her fingers, bounced off the stadium seating, and vanished into the fissures between the concrete steps.

The Frantic Search

The viral video captures the precise second when the woman’s face shifts from excited to breathless. Recognizing what she had seen in front of them, she started scouring the stadium seats and the ruins of the stands with her companions in a panic. Despite a detailed search that lasted long after the final ball was bowled, the important piece of jewelry disappeared.

Madhu Priya shared the clip on her Instagram handles: “₹70,000 were lost. Ring is still missing." She also notified stadium personnel and other fans of the problem, stating: "Please help us find our ring if anyone working at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium is watching today. DM us, and we will send ticket details just for verification."

Online Reaction: Are you sympathy or outrage at the TV Show? Criticism

While several social media users offered sympathy and tips for how to reach out to the stadium’s lost-and-found department, the vast majority of “netizens” were not exactly nice. The incident triggered a national debate about the “reels culture” and often encourages reckless or mindless things to the disadvantage of its creators for reasons of fame and social clout on digital media.

"If you love something like that more than anything else then why use it to stage a stunt? It would have been better to use a ring in the video,” someone else wrote. Others were harsher, labelling it a “costly lesson in common sense.” "Moye Moye" an internet slang term used for tragicomic situations kept cropping up in comments as the video racked up thousands of views. That way, the “Ring Purana” briefly eclipses the IPL boundary-breaking activity and illustrates that hobbies are something healthy to do, but if it goes too far, be careful.
