Delhi Capitals made an impressive comeback to defeat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets, backed up by a composed and match-winning innings from Sameer Rizvi.
Delhi Capitals were deep in trouble early on when they were down to 26/4 in the powerplay due to a competitive aim. The top order couldn’t hold their side together against Lucknow’s bowling assault, reducing the middle order to a mountain to climb.
But Sameer Rizvi stood up against the weight of time in an efficient, aggressive style of tackling. He was mature at the same time as ever, driving early and keeping the ball, rotating the strike effectively and also taking a toll of untouchable deliveries. That partnership with the lower middle order helped Delhi to rekindle the ship as the team gradually found their way back with each passing innings.
Rizvi’s innings not only saved the ship but even shifted Delhi’s momentum to their good side. There were no further hiccups. He anchored the team under high tension as they marched through the tense phases of the chase with a level of discipline.
Lucknow Super Giants had produced a competitive total earlier, propelled by sustained contributions from the batting line-up. But they were unable in the end to capitalize on Delhi's late collapse and missed many chances to close the match.
Delhi Capitals finally hit the target with six wickets in hand in one of the most memorable turns of the season. The result is so good that they will be able to keep rolling up some more confidence in the future.
