Michael Hussey (Mr Cricket), former Australian batting legend has been appointed as consultant coach for the Australian men’s cricket team for the 2027 Ashes series and ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. CA made the announcement today, as part of their coaching set up strengthening ahead of an important period of international cricket.
The 51-year-old former batter will also become a T20 advisor and help Australia prepare for major international tournaments in 2028.
Michael Hussey Takes Up Expanded Role
Hussey joins Australia as they prepare for a busy international schedule across all three formats in 2027. His main role will be supporting the team through the 2027 Ashes series against England and the 2027 ODI World Cup (South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia).
In addition to that, he will help Australia T20 preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics (cricket returns to Olympic programme), and the 2028 T20 World Cup jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
His T20 advisory responsibilities will be campaign planning, opposition analysis, player scouting and performance support.
Coaching Assignment Begins With England Series
Hussey’s involvement with the Australian team will start almost immediately. He is expected to help coach Australia during their five-match T20I series against England later in November.
He will also train with the Australian team ahead of the home Test series against New Zealand.
His experience of international cricket and franchise competitions will help Australia’s batting preparation and add to the coaching group.
