Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. found himself at the center of a huge controversy after Santos' tough 1-0 win over a ten-man Remo side in the final day of the season to get a place in the quarter finals of the Copa do Brasil. Though he made it through the tough Round of 16 match and joined the tournament, the always-up-to-date forward looked like he was cranky and angsty at the end of the match at the Mangueirao Stadium. He was not celebrating the success of his team but instead got into arguments with opposition players, coaching staff and rivals in the pitch’s packed mixed zone.
Footage of the clashes spread quickly on social media and the forward frequently provoked the crowd around him. As some of the Brazilian publication Metropoles reported, Neymar aggressively screamed “Eliminated! Eliminated!” at the hostile crowd in what was a very stressful and heated ending to the high-stakes knockout encounter.

But the whole situation did not come out of thin air. The Brazilian international was also subjected to constant harassment from the fans during the whole match, according to media reports, where the Brazilian player was continuously harassed by the crowd. The hostile atmosphere continued till the final whistle and there was a constant stream of nasty screams and angry screams and direct curses from up close and personal curses heard from the stadium, the media reported.
The post-match frictions boiled over when Remo President Antonio Carlos Teixeira went on a verbal attack on Neymar. Remo President Antonio Carlos Teixeira expressed great pride in Remo's fight back but also a feeling of injustice and he could not hold back his anger towards the striker. In an interview with Portal O Fluxo, the club president accused the Santos star of deliberately provoking the home crowd and called his actions on the field totally reprehensible. Teixeira was blunt in his comments and criticized the forward harshly, lamenting the cultural impact of idolizing him, further intensifying the friction between the two teams once more after the match.
Neymar has recently addressed the growing speculation on his career prospects in his professional life. But even though his contract with Santos is up in December, he said he hasn’t decided on what to do next as he’s not fully settled. Neymar also spoke openly on his official YouTube channel when he came to the Neymar Jr.
Institute auction at the moment to say that he is still focused on the right things and that he’ll finish out the season and not move to another club, or stop at all. Neymar said he will move forward not just for now, but until December and that he will be there to answer for that so fans and pundits are still at a loss as to what to do now about his future.
