New Zealand struggled against India’s disciplined pace attack after Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first. Nabi got India two early wickets in Tim Seifert and Will Young to put the hosts on the back foot.

The match (scheduled for 50 overs per side) was reduced to 47 overs after rain delay.

Auqib Nabi Strikes Twice in the Powerplay

Nabi got India off to a good start with Tim Seifert getting out for a duck.

Seifert tried to get going but couldn’t withstand the Indian bowling pressure. He was caught by Anshul Kamboj off Nabi for zero from five deliveries.

Nabi continued his good work and got rid of Will Young for six runs. Young was caught by wicketkeeper KL Rahul after facing 17 deliveries.

The two early wickets meant New Zealand could not build a partnership at the top of the order.

Nabi’s ability to keep pressure on and find movement was an important weapon for India in the first overs.

Anshul Kamboj Adds to New Zealand's Problems

India continued to dominate as Anshul Kamboj joined the wicket-taking party.

Kamboj dismissed Henry Nicholls who scored 11 runs off 26 balls. His dismissal put more pressure on New Zealand batting line up.

Three wickets down inside the first 10 overs meant that home side had to start rebuilding their innings.

Nabi’s two early breaks and Kamboj’s contribution gave India the edge in the first phase of the contest.

Arshdeep Singh Keeps Things Tight

Nabi and Kamboj got the wickets but Arshdeep Singh also kept pressure on from other end.

Arshdeep bowled an economical first spell. He gave away only four runs in his first four overs (including a maiden).

His disciplined bowling made scoring difficult for the New Zealand batters and allowed the other Indian fast bowlers to attack.

Tight bowling and regular wickets put India in a commanding position early on.

New Zealand Need a Partnership

New Zealand had lost three important wickets and they needed Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham to rebuild the innings.

Mitchell was one of the batters trying to stabilise the innings; Latham needed support and not more damage done.

Phillips and captain Mitchell Santner were still to bat so New Zealand had batting depth but if wickets fell it might be difficult for the hosts to get a competitive total.

India Look to Maintain Bowling Pressure

India came into the second ODI confident after winning the first match by five wickets under DLS method.

The decision to bowl first paid dividends as the Indian fast bowlers took advantage of conditions in Wellington.

At the latest available scorecard update New Zealand were 42/3 off 13.5 overs in the 47-over contest.

Auqib Nabi’s early wickets have put India in a good position but the remaining overs will decide New Zealand’s final total.

India will now have to maintain their discipline and stop the home side from making a big recovery.
