South Africa played another strong ODI performance against Australia and won the second match by 32 runs at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on 27 September 2026. Centuries from Temba Bavuma and explosive batsman David Miller helped South Africa to 365/9 and the bowlers finished Australia off with 333 in 49 overs. The victory gave South Africa an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series.
Bavuma Provides the Perfect Foundation
South Africa suffered a blow early on when Aiden Markram was dropped for a duck on the first ball and also Quinton de Kock fell cheaply. Bavuma took the blame and played a composed innings under pressure.
It meant South Africa achieved a clinical 103 from 116 balls - his sixth ODI century. His controlled batting gave stability in the middle overs and South Africa was able to recover from the early wickets.
Miller Turns the Heat Up
If Bavuma provided control, then David Miller supplied the fireworks.
Miller struck a career-best 142 from 93 balls and completed his eighth ODI century. Ten fours and nine sixes in his innings gave him a strike rate of over 150.
The left-hander joined Bavuma after South Africa were 93/3. They then produced a remarkable recovery with 156 runs for the fourth wicket. Miller's aggressive strokeplay finally pushed South Africa to 365/9.
Australia Make a Flying Start
Australia started their chase strongly. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head attacked the South African bowling and added 130 runs to the opening wicket.
Both batsmen scored 84, so Australia was in a good position in the beginning of the chase. South Africa, however, still managed to control the middle overs.

Spin Changes the Game
South Africa's spinners gradually took control as Australia's middle order struggled to maintain the momentum created by Marsh and Head.
Keshav Maharaj took 2/54, Bjorn Fortuin 2/70 while Aiden Markram took 1/55. Australia finally fell short despite a late counterattack from Xavier Bartlett, who scored a quick 50 from 28 balls.
Australia was eventually bowled out for 333 in 49.5 overs to give South Africa another victory.
South Africa Seal the Series
The 32-run victory makes South Africa 2-0 with one more match to play. It was also their “sixth consecutive ODI series win against Australia since 2016/17,” according to reports.
The third ODI will be played in Potchefstroom on 30 September and Australia will be looking to avoid a clean sweep.
