India's Shubman Gill continued his remarkable run in One-Day International cricket with a hundred against West Indies in the second ODI of the three-match series. Gill’s century was particularly special as it was his 11th ODI hundred. The achievement took him ahead of Virat Kohli in the list of Indian batsmen to achieve 11 ODI centuries in the fewest innings. Gill achieved the feat in only 68 ODI innings while Kohli had to play 82 innings to get the same.
The performance also elevated Gill in the global rankings of fastest batters to score 11 ODI centuries. He surpassed Pakistan's Babar Azam and England's Jonny Bairstow, who took more innings to achieve the feat. Only South African great Hashim Amla remains ahead of Gill with his 11th ODI century in just 64 innings.
Gill's remarkable achievement is even more impressive when it comes to Indian soil. For the third consecutive ODI century in India, he scored 110 runs in the first ODI of the series. The right-hander has established himself as the backbone of India’s white-ball batting line-up and does his best under pressure.
