Subhadeep Ghosh Appointed New Fielding Coach of India Men's Cricket Team

Subhadeep Ghosh was appointed as the new Fielding Coach for India Men as the team prepares for its upcoming two-Test series with Sri Lanka. Dilip had previously returned for a second coaching stint during India’s five-match Test tour to England in 2025 with a one-year contract from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. But the contract was not renewed after that tour and this is a change in the team's backroom staff. Dilip was the first Fielding Coach for India from 2021 through the end of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Ghosh comes into this position as a well-versed coach at domestic and international level. He has previously served as the field coach for the India women’s national team for two years and was in the support team at the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup and 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup. Ghosh has also been involved in the national women’s team and coached Assam’s senior men’s cricket team, as well as with the India A team. Prior to coaching and mentoring he has a long career in Indian domestic cricket as a right-handed batsman and represented Assam and Railways in 17 first-class games and 17 List A matches.

Sri Lanka Test series begins with the opening match in Galle on August 15 and the second and final Test at Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo on August 23. In preparation for the red-ball matches, the Indian team will play a three-day practice match in Colombo starting on August 7 to get used to the environment. This series marks India’s first red-ball match in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle since they hosted South Africa in November, but they have also played a one-off match in Afghanistan in the first week of June.

Moreover, the coaching team has also made some coaching changes in the field. The assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has quit the post after the team’s white-ball tour of England. Ten Doeschate has taken on the role of Head of Cricket Strategy for Franchise Cricket in the Indian Premier League with Kolkata Knight Riders. These changes in the coaching staff and the organisation’s approach to support team will create a new chapter for the Indian team as they embark on their overseas red-ball tour in Sri Lanka under the new management staff.
