India had a total all-round performance to win a thumping victory over Afghanistan showing strength at home and in the field. The Men in Blue took 401 runs first before their bowlers took the Afghan batting line-up apart and made what looked like a batting paradise into a place where wickets fell regularly.

India’s top order was asked to bat and their top team put up a massive score. Shubman Gill led from the front with a century from the start, all elegant and timing and power in his innings but also his presence of mind in order to keep it up. Ishan Kishan played one of his best innings with a hundred from his captain stroke for stroke with Shubman Gill who did his best in recent times in a hundred and it was a brilliant hundred.

They dominated the Afghan bowling attack and formed a mighty partnership which took the game off the opposition. Boundaries had no limit as both players were cautious but also aggressive and India scored at a high tempo all the way through and through. They were the backbone of the innings as India reached 400 runs and 402 at close.

For such a big target on the board, Afghanistan needed a dream start. But they ran into a disciplined and determined Indian bowling team that never let them settle.

Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with three crucial wickets and constantly troubling the batters with his pace and movement. The way he is able to strike at the right times helped Afghanistan stay in the chase.

The match also provided India's new inclusions Gurmeet Brar and Prince Yadav with the chance to perform well and both of them took two wickets each. Their accuracy and confidence indicated the breadth of India's bowling and their future of the team.

As the innings progressed the nature of the contest shifted dramatically. The same pitch that had witnessed a batting exhibition from Gill and Kishan suddenly appeared much more helpful for the bowlers. Indian bowlers extracted movement, variation and bounce, making life difficult for the Afghan batters.

The most surprising moment came when Yashasvi Jaiswal was handed the ball. The part-time bowler had a shockingly economical over, giving up just three runs and only added to Afghanistan’s frustration. It was a clear indication of how much control India had over the contest.

The fielding unit did a fantastic job in keeping the bowlers on track and energetic despite a huge total. The wickets kept India in control of the match and Afghanistan never really looked like taking a serious stand.

At the end of the day, India had a near perfect day. Gill and Kishan’s centuries took the team to 402, while Arshdeep, Gurmeet Brar and Prince Yadav led the team with a powerful bowling attack. And all out Afghanistan national side for only 232 runs. And yes, this victory was also a great statement of India’s overall strength and depth and ability to dominate in all the departments. If this performance is any indication, India will be a powerful force in the rest of the tournament.
