The 2026 Winter Olympics, officially referred to by the world as the XXV Olympic Winter Games, will take place between February 6 and February 22, 2026. Italy's beautiful terrain, history, stunning landscape, and colourful cultural identity make it a country best known for the past. Hence, both cities have been selected for the Games. Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo will also be the target cities.Italy is located there. The city juxtaposes contemporary energy with global sports: figure skating, ice hockey and short-track speed skating.
At the same time the alpine town of Cortina d’Ampezzo (which features some of the most spectacular ski slopes in the country) will offer skiing and snowboarding and bobsleigh, among other winter sports for all but sport enthusiasts and athletes to enjoy the sweeping nature of the Dolomite mountains that will host these events. The mix of city and mountain venues offers a new type of experience, from destination town to destination town, participant-level and spectator-level, either at the global village or country level.
The 2026 Winter Olympics are designed to be both sustainable and fair. Italy plans on maximizing the use of current stadiums, investing in renewables and providing public transport effectively and efficiently to drive down the Games’ carbon footprint. This is a shift from the previous practice of playing games on repeat, to this world stage’s model of sport which is ecologically sound and should be a decent launch pad in the coming Olympics.
Aside from the games, for the fans, the Games will be a cultural festivity. Visitors will get to know Italian culture, art and cuisine beyond sports. Italy, from the streets of Milan to the snow-falling peaks of Cortina d’Ampezzo, is a country rich in culture, history and natural wonders, the Olympics the sum of the world’s celebration.
It is a world of new broadcasting, interactive experiences and world class performances at every stage – and even more so at home and at the stadium. Well, for their part, the Winter Games bring excitement and thrill along with a great ride down town--you can enjoy the excitement of skiing downhill to the giddy energy of sports such as ice hockey--the kind that capture the three dimensions of spirit competition, peace, unity and joy.
In 2026, with Italy up to the plate, the Winter Olympics will be a time when this world-famous performance showcases athletic prowess; it will further the richness; history for generations of future: sustainability, global cooperation and unity is what the Olympic Games needs to be, a tradition lived and celebrated by athletes and fans over centuries.
